Chapter 4
1. Why does Gatsby throw so many parties?
2. Who is Daisy Buchanan, or should I say "Daisy Fay," to Jay Gatsby?
1. Even though Tom and Daisy are married both of them can't really stand one another since Tom has a mistress and Daisy doesn't do anything about it so it's a really tense/fake relationship.
ReplyDelete2. From my point of view everyone seems to be outwardly happy/successful but truly deep down no one is truly happy and I feel like everyone is lost so they consume themselves with their secrets/vain.
3. The symbolism of the eyes was brought up because the way we find out more about the other characters besides our narrator, Nick, is through secrets but the eyes are the true key to fully see/know a person which I feel like is the theme throughout the story so far.
4. Myrtle is so rude to her actual husband because she doesn't love him, she is just with him because of the money.
5. Tom punched Myrtle in the nose because she was continuously yelling "Daisy" as if she was the queen of the house but Tom warned her not to talk bad about Daisy so when Myrtle didn't stop Tom punched her.
6. Alcohol is constantly included in the story because when your drunk not only does everything seem more grand but it is also how people reveal themselves and secrets which are the key points of the story.
7. Gatsby throws a lot of parties because he is hoping that Daisy will eventually come to one.
8. To Jay Gatsby, Daisy is his long lost lover from a long time ago that he wishes to reunite with once again.
My answers:
ReplyDelete1. I would describe Daisy and Tom Buchanan's relationship as stiff, it appears that they don't really show affection or attention to each other because they're so into themselves.
2. No one is actually happy because they all pretend and they put on masks to cover up their true emotions.
3. The symbolism of eyes is brought up because they see things that some can't see, almost like the future or they know secrets.
4. Myrtle is rude to her actual husband because he wasn't what she expected him to be, she thinks she deserves better.
5. Tom punched Myrtle in the nose because she kept chanting Daisy's name.
6. Alcohol is constantly included in the story because F. Scott Fitzgerald is assumed to be an alcoholic and has experienced situations like that.
7. Gatsby throws so many parties because he hopes Daisy will wander into one of them someday.
8. Daisy "Fay" Buchanan was Gatsby's lover/girlfriend when they were younger before he went off to war.
From JONESSALLIN:
ReplyDelete1. Daisy and Tom’s relationship seem to be fake, and both ignore one another.
2. The happiness is only for show when behind the scenes, no one is actually happy. ( Example: Daisy )
3. The symbolism of eyes is brought up because it is a way of mentioning that there secrets behind every story/character.
4. Myrtle only married him for money and not love.
5. Tom punched Myrtle in the nose because she acted like she was the queen of the house and kept saying “Daisy” when Tom warned her many times to stop.
6. Alcohol is included in the story because although it is for fun, the narrator used it as a way to figure out the truth about each character.
7. Gatsby throws so many parties because he wants to see take the chance of seeing Daisy.
8. Jay Gatsby and Daisy “Fay” were lovers before Gatsby went off to war.
