Gatsby 38-47
Chapter 2
Tom- uses vulgar language
Myrtle- acts sophisticated (truly isn't), regrets marrying Mr.Wilson
Juxtaposition between Mr.Wilson and Tom Buchanan:
- Nick feels like an outsider with all the people around him
- Most of them are drunk and have slurred speech
Myrtle was punched in the nose by Tom since she kept saying how she's in the position to (belittle?) say "Daisy"
- Myrtle is just a playtoy for Tom, he doesn't consider Myrtle at Daisy's level
- Author adds run-ons to reveal the character is heavily intoxicated
"It was nine o'clock--almost immediately afterwards I looked at my watch and found it was ten."
