2. Nick suggests to Gatsby to go away to Montreal or Atlanta. Gatsby rejects Nick's suggestion because he doesn't want to leave Daisy.

3. When Gatsby left Daisy he felt like nothing without her. He longed to be with her and even considered them to be "married." They were cuddled up against each other the afternoon before he went to war.

4. In the middle of all this drama, the author interrupts the tense relationship dialogue with a secondary character and mention of the pool to distract the tragic scene that will come up. It's important that Gatsby wants to swim at least once in his own pool...

5. Gatsby is in his swimming pool on a floaty minding his business. He was trying to bask in the time in the pool while waiting for a phone call from Nick and Daisy. Meanwhile, George Wilson sneaks into his house. There were no guards which probably made it easy for Wilson to sneak in and shot Gatsby. Afterward, Wilson ends up committing suicide thinking that he killed the man who was having an affair with his wife as well as the one who killed her.
