Soldiers of mis/fortune
Joseph Heller's tone toward Yossarian and the other soldiers in Catch-22 is that they are cowards due them wanting to get out of their responsibilities. Soldiers in the book fake being sick to get out of fighting in the war. The idea of satire gets accrosed because soldiers are supposed to be heros willing to sacrifice themselves for their country. Instead the ones in the book are bored while writing letters, trying their best to not do anything else. Rather than making the characters heroic, savage or serious, he applies logic and observation to make sense of everything. Heller's tone makes the book more relatable because the seem more human. There are people out there who'd rather forget their responsibilities and mess around.
