Journal: May 5
What is Cinco de Mayo?
Well for starters it means “fifth of May.” It is the day of the Mexican Army’s victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla. Some people have associated Cinco de Mayo with “Mexican Independence Day” (which falls on September 16), but it isn’t. It turns out the holiday isn’t as big in Mexico. It’s just another day for people. Although in the states, it celebrates Mexican culture and heritage and is very popular amongst Mexican-Americans. As someone who is Asian, I don’t know a whole lot about it than others would. To me it is just another day, but to others it may mean so much more. However, I feel like this day is more of an excuse to drink and party. The other day, I went out to help get groceries and there were so many people buying A LOT of alcoholic beverages. Even in the midst of a pandemic, people will party? Anyways, hope everyone is doing well.
