Young Old Good Bad
I think Hawthorne wrote "Young Goodman Brown" to show the evil that can be within a person who we view as "good" or possibly the opposite. We don't really know what goes on in a person's mind and how they act when they aren't around others. The reason that Stephen King was so affected by the story was possibly because of plot twists in the story which were those who taught him about his religion were really evil deep inside. In the end, it just seemed to be Goodman Brown's imagination that conjured up these thoughts since there wasn't an ounce of evil in them when he returned to the village. What this says about what we can really know about other people and the power of our imaginations is that we can easily be swayed by our doubts.
