the earth on turtle's back
Myth- a story that explains something we don't understand
-creation myths were shared primarily from adult perspective about the world around them
Moral - a lesson
lesson in the story - if you try hard, you can accomplish, determination
The myth the Earth's on Turtles Back that Indians told to the youth was a way to encourage them to have determination and perseverance similar to the tiny muskrat in the story. Techniques used in the story was personification (anthropomorphic), rising action and imagery. The description of the story made me envision the scenario in my head vividly. The myth passed down from generations was inspirational since it was a female whose abilities were appreciated. In society, males are usually symbolized as the "stronger" gender while the females are "weak." It was a nice switch to show the female having a bigger role in the story.
Throughout history, women were considered less than men. It was males who were thought to be the dominant sex although, society has managed to change that. Feminism, the fight for equal rights etc. has become more common in society now. There are still people stuck in the mindset of a specific gender being more superior. However, women (as well as the help of some men) have tried their very best (just like the tiny muskrat) to gain the rights they deserve.
