Online Meeting #26
thoughts on states reopening...
I find it absurd how people would rather put their lives and others at risk to reopen the economy instead of helping flatten the curve. There's over 3 million cases worldwide and the United States has over 1 million. America leads the largest amount of cases yet it isn't stopping people from gathering in big groups to protest about freedom being taken away, not being allowed to get haircuts, go to the beach, etc. I find that the US is handling this situation horribly. One of my friends living in Hong Kong has told me they've reopened after confirming a drop in the cases after 21 days. Although here in the US, there are states who haven't even seen a 14 day decline and already have reopened with precautions (obviously).
visceral- as if felt in the senses
- The theme of the entire book is partially about censorship but also, "the deeper meaning in ourselves"
- references to compare Fahrenheit 451: The Giver, Hunger Games
- the book is an invitation to follow Montag
- message of the book is that in order to find our best selves, we have to walk through the fire and take action, the future is in our hands
