Socratic Method - Response

After reading the Socratic Method I discovered that it is used to deepen the discussion of a certain topic to find the underlying truth. For instance, in Socratic seminars we discuss topics in order to come to a conclusion. During the process we express our opinions, add onto others' thoughts and argue against them. Being open minded and open to criticism allows the discussion to properly flow. Although, criticism does often lead to the bruising of someone's ego as said in the blog post. Even if someone's ego is bruised during the discussion, without criticism there won't be any progress. A question I have is, are there other ways to pursue to the truth? If so, what are they?
