So This Guy Goes For a Walk

As a writer, Ray Bradbury was a witty man and the reply he gave to an officer was something we don't typically say to an authority figure. His reply to the officer who had pulled him over was, "I'm putting one foot in front of the other." Perhaps he was just trying to lighten the tension between them--  Obviously, during the time Bradbury encountered the officer, walking late in the night is something that is considered suspicious even to this day. Although Bradbury had explained to the officer he was only going out for a walk to get fresh air, the officer did not believe him. Being interrogated and treated as a potential criminal just for walking at that time of day, must have felt like a violation.      Ray Bradbury wrote "The Pedestrian" to describe as well as make sense of the experience-- as well as let his imagination run wild.
