Ancient Rhetoric in Modern Times
As I read the article in self-driving cars the elements of ethos, pathos, logos, and kairos that jumped out at me are:
ethos- The author, Johannes Himmelreich is a philosopher who works with engineers in "Stanford's Center for Automotive Research."
pathos- the author seems to be more lenient toward having self-driving cars on the road.
logos- talks about a crash involving self-driving car killing a pedestrian.
kairos- self-driving cars are currently a popular topic at the moment.
These elements make the article and the arguments more effective because it makes the reader understand where the author is coming from through the use of pathos (passion) in their article. By the use of kairos, it appeals to readers who are interested in learning more about how self-driving cars function and malfunction. Having logos (statistics/data) and being a credible source makes the argument stronger.
